How to Order Sucraid
Introduction
Please note: The services and contact information described below are available in the US only. For information on obtaining Sucraid® (sacrosidase) Oral Solution for patients located outside of the US, please see Outside USA.
As a specialty pharmaceutical product for a niche, orphan patient population, Sucraid® Oral Solution is not available through traditional retail pharmacies.
Instead QOL Medical, the maker of Sucraid® Oral Solution, uses an exclusive specialty pharmacy provider that ships therapy directly to the patient’s home or physician’s office. All shipments are refrigerated. This arrangement ensures that each patient receives his/her medication in a timely manner. This process applies to both the prescription product as well as the therapeutic response dose shipments.
Real Benefits of a Specialty Pharmacy Provider
Patient access to specialty, niche pharmaceuticals is often a complex process influenced by many factors including the extent of a patient's insurance coverage, co-pay requirements, and contracts between the patient's insurance provider and the drug benefit administrator or pharmacy benefits manager. Exclusive specialty pharmacy distribution channels are designed specifically to support such complexities. Beyond just arranging for direct shipment of Sucraid® Oral Solution to the patient’s home, the real benefit of using an exclusive specialty pharmacy provider is that it provides a full range of patient access and reimbursement support services. These services, which help healthcare providers, caregivers and/or patients access therapy, include:
- Insurance benefits verification
- Prior authorization resolution
- Defense of medical necessity (if needed)
- Co-pay determination and facilitation
- Co-pay assistance
- Patient assistance services for qualified patients (where allowable by federal and state law)
- Access to an on-call pharmacist 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
- Coordination of patient care with the physician’s office
Upon enrollment in the Sucraid® program, the physician’s office is contacted by an admissions healthcare coordinator who will explain the available services, research reimbursement, and coordinate shipment of the first order of Sucraid® with the patient. Each month thereafter, the patient is contacted by a patient care coordinator who will arrange additional shipments and monitor patient refills.
The specialty pharmacy provider model and supporting services facilitate patient access to Sucraid® Oral Solution to the fullest extent allowable by both federal and state laws.

How to Obtain a Therapeutic Response Dose

- Complete the Sucraid® Therapeutic Response Dose Enrollment Form.
- Print and sign the completed form.
- Fax the form to 1-866-777-7097.
Upon completion of this enrollment form, the licensed healthcare professional will be shipped one bottle of Sucraid® Oral Solution (118 mL). More Information
Important Safety Information
For a complete discussion of indications, usage, contraindications, warnings, precautions, adverse reactions, and overdosage, please see full prescribing information attached. Do not use Sucraid® with patients known to be hypersensitive to yeast, yeast products, or glycerin (glycerol). Sucraid may contain papain which can cause allergic reactions in some patients. Adverse experiences with Sucraid in clinical trials were generally minor and were frequently associated with underlying disease. In clinical studies of up to 54 months duration, physicians treated a total of 52 patients with Sucraid. The adverse experiences and respective number of patients reporting each event were as follows: abdominal pain(4), vomiting(3), nausea(2), diarrhea(2), constipation(2), insomnia(1), headache(1), nervousness(1), and dehydration(1). Note: diarrhea and abdominal pain can be a part of the clinical presentation of the genetically determined sucrase deficiency, which is part of congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency. The effects of Sucraid have not been evaluated in patients with secondary (acquired) disaccharidase deficiency. In one clinical trial, one patient, a four year old boy who was being treated for asthma, experienced severe wheezing necessitating admission into the ICU. While reported reactions are extremely rare, care should be taken when administering initial doses of Sucraid to observe any signs of acute hypersensitivity reaction. Care should be taken to administer initial doses of Sucraid near a facility where acute hypersensitivity reactions can be adequately treated.1
